Going back to Kick-Ass more than a decade after its original release feels all the more appropriate, as many of the superhero genre's conventions we see nowadays can trace their roots back to this humorous film. The acknowledgment of costumed weirdoes running around and fighting crime is welcomed, and combined with some particularly absurd moments involving Nicolas Cage's Big Daddy, there are plenty of funny moments to balance out the surrounding grit.
